Founded in 2005 by magazine editor-turned-agent Lauren Galit, the LKG Agency is a boutique literary agency based on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. From the beginning, Lauren brought her editorial eye and deep industry knowledge to elevating authors, and quickly became known for representing all the stars of TLC’s What Not to Wear. She sold Clinton Kelly’s Freakin’ Fabulous books, Carmindy Acosta’s 5 Minute Face and Get Positively Beautiful, and Nick Arrojo’s Great Hair. The agency also worked closely with magazine writers to help them launch their book projects.
What has always set LKG apart is the care and personal attention invested in each author. Our goal is not just to sell a book, but to enable writing careers and forge long-term relationships that last well beyond a single project. Which is why LKG Agency was cited as a top boutique by literaryagencies.com
In 2010, after selling then-associate Caitlen Rubino-Bradway’s Ordinary Magic to Bloomsbury US, LKG Agency opened its doors to children’s literature, and the whole world exploded. A teen struggling with OCD, art that comes alive, a boy who lives every day twice, descendants of revolutionary heroes and traitors, a girl on a quest for a new bedtime reader, the lure of Dungeons & Dragons, the fantasy of The Phantom of the Opera — LKG authors have explored these worlds and more. Today, the agency specializes in middle grade, young adult, and new adult books, focusing on fantasy, sci-fi, magical realism, thrillers, contemporary, and non-fiction works (just not horror).
Regardless of the project, the agency’s work doesn’t end with the offer. LKG carefully negotiates each contract to secure the best possible terms, and supports authors through delivery, publication, and publicity. For foreign rights, Lauren partners with Sandy Hodgman of Hodgman Literary.
But wait, there’s more — because it isn’t about that one project, it’s about an writer’s whole career. We hope to partner with each and every one of our authors for multiple books, building a bookshelf of titles together. After all, creating a book is hard enough, LKG is there to guide authors through everything else.
